Dental implants require a certain amount of bone underneath them for support and to have the implant integrate properly into the mouth. People who have been edentulous (without teeth) for a prolonged period may not have enough bone left in the necessary locations because as time passes your body resorbs "melts" away the bone; Therefore at North Shore Comprehensive dentistry we offer our patients the opportunity to have a bone graft placed at time of extraction if they are planning or thinking about implants. This graft helps preserve the height and width of your jaw bone so an implant can be placed in the future. Your body replaces the bone graft material with your own body's bone over a time period of 3-6 months

After the tooth is extracted, bone graft material is inserted into the tooth socket to preserve the shape and integrity of the socket and prevent bone deterioration. This allows time for preparation of implants and new teeth
